Endowment Established Honoring Memory of Late MSU Graduate James C. "Jimmy" Galloway, Jr.

An endowment honoring the memory of Jimmy Galloway will benefit an established scholarship that bears his name in Mississippi State University’s College of Business. The academic award is created by the Galloway Family, along with numerous business colleagues and friends of Jimmy. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a student(s) majoring in risk management or another major within the College of Business.

Jimmy’s insurance career began with Farm Bureau in 1975 in Brookhaven, MS. He moved back to Columbus in 1979 and four years later purchased Galloway-Wiggers Insurance. In 1994, he merged his agency with Kyle Chandler Insurance to form Galloway-Chandler-McKinney Insurance, where he served as president. Throughout his 42-year career, Jimmy served on numerous boards for multiple insurance companies and organizations including the advisory board of Mississippi State’s Department of Risk Management & Insurance, the executive committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi, the board of Cadence Bank, and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Agent Advisory Council, where he served as chairman.

"My Dad was always a giver. He was successful as a businessman, but more importantly as a person and a father," says son Brandt Galloway of Columbus. "The impact he made on the lives of others is tremendous – a true role model in every way."

“The goal of the Galloway Scholarship is to assist deserving MSU students pursuing a career in the College of Business," Galloway adds. "My Dad loved MSU and would be thrilled that this scholarship will assist young individuals as they pursue their education, and we are all grateful that it will honor his memory in such a wonderful way.”
“I became friends with Jimmy in 1981 and we were very close while we shared good times and bad as our businesses grew,” says Joey Hutto, close friend and insurance industry colleague. “I witnessed Jimmy Galloway evolve into one of the most respected people in our industry. He is one of the finest men I have known, what a great way to honor his memory and help young people at MSU.”

“On behalf of the entire Galloway Family, we are truly grateful for the contributions and support of business colleagues and friends,” says brother Larry Galloway. “Jimmy would be extremely humble and proud these scholarships will positively impact the lives of young individuals pursuing their degree at MSU.”
