Our Centennial Celebration

Our Centennial Celebration

Founded on October 15, 1915, Mississippi State University’s College of Business is the oldest college of business in the state of Mississippi and one of the oldest in the South. In 2015, we commemorated our 100th anniversary with a year-long Centennial Celebration, honoring a century of excellence in education, research, and outreach. Over the last century, the College of Business has produced more than 33,000 graduates—from all 50 states and over 140 countries—each one an important part of our rich history.

The Centennial Anniversary Celebration provided an opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of our students, alumni, faculty, and friends while raising the visibility of the College and Mississippi State University. As part of this historic milestone, we launched a bold new branding campaign: WE MEAN BUSINESS. This strong, confident tagline reflects the drive of our community and was showcased through videos, stories, events, and banners around McCool Hall throughout 2015.

At the heart of the campaign were six words that define what “We Mean” in the College of Business:

  • Leadership – Confident, strategic thinkers who are prepared to lead and embrace new challenges.
  • Discovery – Groundbreaking research led by faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students.
  • Innovation – A culture of creativity and entrepreneurship that provides real-world experience.
  • Opportunity – Scholarships, world-class faculty, study abroad, internships, and career networking.
  • Integrity – A commitment to ethical decision-making in every circumstance.
  • Community – Service, compassion, and giving back to foster a better world.

Our Centennial was both a celebration of the past and a promise for the future. For more than 100 years, the College of Business has been committed to educating tomorrow’s leaders and promoting economic development across the state and nation. As we look ahead to the next century, we continue to lead with excellence, opportunity, and innovation.
