Master Teacher in Economics Resources
Mission Statement:
The Mississippi State University Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy promotes local economic development in communities throughout north Mississippi through the production and delivery of economic education programs and research.
To accomplish this, the Center provides:
- professional development programs and continuing education courses for K-12 teachers assigned to implement Mississippi’s required economics curriculum
- consultation to public and private schools concerning how to implement, manage, and assess Mississippi’s required economics curriculum
- educational outreach programs for the general public which promote an understanding and appreciation of the U.S. economic system
- programs to promote and encourage sound financial habits, including saving and investment, by households throughout north Mississippi
- research expertise for the assessment and evaluation of economics education projects and programs
- original economics education and financial literacy research to support public policymakers and local economic development officials
Quick Facts:
- Center formally established and sanctioned by Mississippi State University in 2003.
- Affiliated with the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) through the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE).
- First teacher training workshops held in 2003 through funding provided by grants to the NCEE and MCEE from International Paper, State Farm Insurance, the Mississippi Power Company Foundation, the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation, and other partners.
- Center staff have conducted evaluation and assessment activities as part of the Cooperative Education Exchange Program produced by the NCEE (e.g., teacher training in Russia and Kazakhstan) with funding from the U. S. Departments of Education and State.
Virtual Economics 3.0 Workshops
Numerous workshops during 2008 will feature distribution of the new Virtual Economics 3.0 CD -- an entire library of curriculum materials for K-12 teachers! Keep an eye on our calender for details and workshop sites as they are announced.
The Economic Education Network
The MSU CEEFL is part of a nationwide network of university-based centers which provide teacher training and curriculum development for America's K-12 schools. The center is fully affiliated with the National Council on Economic Eduction through the Mississippi Council on Economic Education.

The Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) is a non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization founded to promote economic literacy in Mississippi. The MCEE provides resources and training to public and private K-12 teachers in Mississippi, empowering educators to teach their students how economics relates to their lives as a worker, citizen and consumer. |
