           The Office of Business Outreach endeavors to stimulate and support economic development initiatives which it believes will create/sustain meaningful employment and improve the quality of life within Mississippi, and has long provided  programs and assistance to both existing businesses and new ventures. We continue this work by providing up-to-date information, high-quality conferences, workshops and seminars, and expert technical and organizational assistance, as well as custom-designed in-house training for organizations.

Division of Business Research Serves as the Center of funded research for the College, assisting faculty members inthe preparation, implementation, and completion of projects.  The Division also administratively supports Economy Watch publication, a quarterly report on the issues affecting the economy of Mississippi, which is funded through the sponsorship of BankPlus and Entergy.

Ongoing Research  Programs:

  • High School Arts Education and Academic Success: The Access of At-Risk Students and the Impact of Participation. Funded by Spencer Foudnation
  • Defining a Complete Educational Path to a Computing Degree.  Funded by National Science Foundation
  • Climate Literacy Program for the Southeast. Funded by National Science Foundation
  • Extending Financial Literacy Education in the Mississippi Special Education Occupational Diploma Program.   Funded by Council for Economic Education

 

Technology Resource Institute assists the business person or industry representative, the community agency, or the local government agency with the following services:

  • management and organizational training;
  • new product development;
  • market analyses for new business expansions;
  • assessments and professional review of entrepreneurial plans;
  • business strategic plan development; and assistance with the integration of new technologies.

TRI additionally provides opportunities for interaction between upper-level MSU business students and industry leaders in Mississippi, and acts as a pipeline for College of Business graduates to enter the workforce. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Division of Business Services assists faculty in delivering a number of training programs and seminars for local, national and international business leaders.  Two of these programs are:

 

The International Business Strategy Program  (IBSP) is an on-going program in association with the Graduate School of Business Administration, Kwangwoon University, Seoul, South Korea.  Started in 1991, the program has provided leading-edge technology and business management seminars for designated Korean business professionals.  IBSP hosts groups of Korean business managers for lectures and seminars in cross-cultural management, information technology, strategic competitive advantages, and American-Korean business issues.

Annual Income Tax Course  is a continuing professional education seminar presented by Tax Insight, LLC., to participants from Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, and Louisiana.  About 410 tax professionals participated in the 2011 series of tax seminars.   This year's course schedule were:   Read more

Small Business Development Center provides counseling to new and existing business owners to assist them in becoming more competitive and economically viable by such means as:

  • helping increase awareness of basic credit practices;
  • assisting in development of business plans; and
  • increasing the implementation of and participation in marketing and production strategies.
